Our Story

Hills started from a simple local reality: in Rwanda, buying something often meant going shop to shop without knowing where the product was available.

The Starting Point

The founding insight came from direct experience at home in Rwanda. A simple purchase could take hours because there was no easy way to know which shop had the product, at what location, and in what condition.

That is not an isolated case. Across many African communities, people go to markets with uncertainty and rely on luck, word of mouth, or repeated movement between stores.

Market Reality

1

People often move from shop to shop without knowing if a product is actually available.

2

Many trusted local businesses are active offline but invisible online.

3

Customers lose time and transport costs searching by trial and error.

4

Merchants lose demand simply because they are hard to find digitally.

How Hills Evolved

1

Origin: The idea started from a personal experience in Rwanda: finding basic products meant walking shop to shop with no reliable visibility into stock or services.

2

Problem definition: That same uncertainty affects many people across African markets, where offline commerce is strong but digital discovery is still limited.

3

First solution: Hills began by helping customers discover nearby shops and helping local businesses create practical digital visibility.

4

Execution focus: The product was built mobile-first, lightweight, and practical for real local conditions including low-data usage and low-end devices.

5

Next chapter: Hills is now expanding from discovery into local commerce infrastructure: demand intelligence, logistics signals, and data that supports broader economic coordination.

Where We Are Now

Hills is an active and growing platform focused on making local businesses visible and reachable today, while building toward a larger local commerce infrastructure over time.

The long-term direction includes stronger data foundations, logistics intelligence, and demand visibility that can support businesses, communities, institutions, and ecosystem partners.

How We Build

  • Solve real, everyday problems before adding complexity.
  • Build tools that local businesses can use immediately.
  • Design for accessibility, affordability, and trust.
  • Scale with evidence from real market behavior.
Hills is built step by step: practical first, scalable by design, and grounded in real market needs.
